Mindfulness-Based Interventions Special Interest Group

The Mindfulness-Based Intervention Special Interest Group offers an anchor point for those who are involved with the delivery, planning or commissioning of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) across the North West of England.

Note: The term MBI is used here to refer to structured 8-week courses such as mindfulness-based stress reduction, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy and courses with a comparable foundation in terms of philosophical underpinnings, content and experiential focus.

  • To support the on-going development of good practice and integrity in the delivery of MBIs.
  • To disseminate and promote minimum standards of good practice for mindfulness-based teachers and training organisations.
  • To host a private Discussion Board for SIG members to communicate and share best practice.
  • To support the implementation of MBIs in a range of settings.
  • To evolve to support the needs of our local mindfulness community.

Who is the SIG for?

Mindfulness teachers (or those in training), supervisors and training organisations, university researchers, commissioners and service managers interested in implementing and sustaining high quality MBIs.

Good Practice Guidelines
In the UK a network of Mindfulness Teacher Training Organisations has developed a series of good-practice guidelines. The guidelines can be access via the links below.

Mindfulness Teacher Registration
Currently there is no requirement in the UK for mindfulness teachers to be registered. In 2015 a voluntary register was launched by the UK Network of Mindfulness Teacher Training Organisations. In order to join the register, teachers must evidence that they meet a set of minimum standards and continue to meet the UK Good Practice Guidelines for Teaching Mindfulness-based Courses. It is expected that in time, this register or a future iteration will become mandatory.
